VJ Seminar: Aron's Tips & Tricks now online - Links in this article

November 18th 7-9pm – CBS5 Studios, 855 Battery St, San Francisco
Guest Presenter: Aron Ranen, Professional Trainer, DV Workshops SF

In today’s Video-Journalist driven newsrooms, fewer resources have created a crucial need for staff retraining. Powerful, yet small and lighter field acquisition equipment, easier-to-use light kits and intuitive editing systems such as Final Cut Pro help bridge the gap between smaller resources and quality.

Still, the transition from traditional newsgathering operations to that of a VJ newsroom is a challenge both technically and practically. The skill sets that a 2-person crew brought to a story is now absorbed by one. Setting up good lighting, asking the right interview questions, recording audio, getting enough B-roll and cover shots, keeping up with a developing story that may have a VJ running across town while lugging equipment, not to mention looming air and web deadlines can make for a frenetic day.

This model can work however, and work well. Crews are nimble and often have more access; it’s cost effective and allows for a greater variety of stories or multiple angles of a story to be gathered. Training, good equipment and the right approach can make all the difference.

This November, NATAS Norcal is teaming up with pro trainer Aron Ranen from DV Workshops for a VJ Crash Course "Production to Air: A VJ Seminar".
