Disposable Film Festival 2011 - San Francisco March 24-27th

Now in its 4th year, the DFF celebrates the artistic potential of disposable video: short films made on non-professional devices such as one-time use video cameras, cell phones, point and shoot cameras, webcams, computer screen capture software, and other readily available video capture devices.
The 2011 premier will boast more creative narrative work and other techniques thanks to the array of new devices such as the iPhone 4, DSLRs, Kinect and more.
The native San Francisco-based festival features the very best of over 1000 entries from around the world, highlighting the new accessibility of filmmaking today. The program will feature a competitive shorts program and other screenings, a featured filmmaker profile of Philadelphia-based artist and filmmaker Christopher McManus in conversation with Vimeo’s Andrea Allen, Q&A’s, a community-based social gaming networking simulcast, educational workshops, multimedia performances, and after parties.

Thursday, March 24, Castro Theater, OPENING NIGHT
The festival kicks off with its Competitive Shorts Night at the famous Castro Theater on March 24 at 8:00 PM (429 Castro Street San Francisco, CA 94114). Tickets are available for $12 and can be purchased in advance at the following link: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/156165
As with past years, the Competitive Shorts Night is followed by an Audience Choice Award and is rated by an expert panel of judges. This year the Disposable Film festival welcomes Ted Hope (Darkhorse) and Matthew Lessner (The Woods) alongside festival veterans Hawk Ostby (Children of Men, Ironman) and Blake Whitman (Vimeo.com).

Friday, March 25, Rex Hotel
Following the Competitive Shorts Night, the festival will host a special industry panel and party on Friday, March 25 at the Rex Hotel (562 Sutter Street

Saturday, March 26 - 2pm, Artists’ Television Access, (992 Valencia Street)
The festival will host an afternoon profile of Philadelphia-based filmmaker Christopher McManus in conversation with Vimeo’s Andrea Allen. McManus’s Hair and Diamonds series has shown all over the world, including London’s Tate Modern. The event will take place at Artists’ Television Access (992 Valencia Street). Tickets are $6 at the door.

Saturday Evening, March 26, 8pm CELLSpace (2050 Bryant Street)
Pomplamoose: Workshop and Concert
Rock out at this evening of live music, videos, and merrymaking with Pomplamoose, the indie duo that has redefined music-video-making and conquered YouTube! A VideoSong Workshop with the band will start at 8, followed by a live performance. Learn the methods, tips, and tricks for documenting your work and making your own VideoSongs.
The Disposable Film Festival will host an evening of interactive media and live music by the indie duo and YouTube sensation Pomplamoose (http://www.pomplamoose.com/).  The evening will begin with workshop on disposable filmmaking by Pomplamoose, followed by their performance. Activists and educators discuss how disposable film is spurring social change.
Following the regular programming, the festival will wrap on Sunday, March 27 with a robust educational panel and workshop at Oddball Film + Video (275 Capp Street, San Francisco, CA 94110). Check http://disposablefilmfest.com/events/ for more details.
In addition to the regular program, the Disposable Film Fest has partnered with Playstation Home. The virtual world will host a simulcast for their social gaming community of 17 Million users, featuring work from the 2010 festival leading up to opening night and then ending with the 2011 material on March 24. Home will also host a virtual world Audience Choice Award, and will follow up the 2011 programming with a live interview with the winning filmmaker.
