Schlosser

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Len Schlosser served in the Army during World War II as a paratrooper in the Pacific. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor. He was hired by KPIX in 1968 after working as a program executive in radio and television in Chicago and New York. He is credited at KPIX with programming that reached out to various communities, such as his "Sut Yung Ying Yee" project, a collection of 65 programs to teach English to Chinese immigrants. He also invited the Rev. Cecil Williams of Glide Memorial United Methodist Church to host a show titled "Variations," which included talks with Angela Davis from prison, Sammy Davis Jr. in Tahoe and Coretta Scott King in Atlanta.

Away from work, Mr. Schlosser served on the boards of directors of various Bay Area organizations, including the Family Service Agency, the Jewish Community Relations Council, Jewish Family and Children's Services, the American Cancer Society, the United Way, the Spirit Rock Meditation Center and Jewish Vocational Services. He was a charter member of the NATAS Silver Circle, inducted in 1086. Len produced a cable television show for the Marin County Commission on Aging, which named him 1999 senior of the year. Len is survived by his daughters, Lisa Thorne of Oakland and Nina Quaranta of Los Angeles; and four grandchildren. He died on May 7, 2004 at the age of 80.
