Meteorologist Joel Bartlett is the weather anchor on the ABC7 Morning News weekdays from 5 - 7 a.m. and the midday newscast at 11:30 a.m.

Joel is a Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM), the professional designation awarded by the American Meteorological Society, and he is also a recipient of the 'Seal of Approval for Television Weathercasting.'

Most recently, he won a 2002 Emmy award for Weathercasting.

Joel Bartlett graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. While in the Air Force, he received his meteorology training at the University of Texas. He also has a Master's degree in business administration from San Francisco State University.

 

Before beginning his TV career, he served as a weather officer for the United States Air Force. He also worked as a meteorologist for Pacific Gas and Electric in San Francisco. Immediately before coming to ABC7, he was an on-air meteorologist at KPIX-TV in San Francisco for 13 years. In all, he has had over 30 years experience forecasting the vagaries of Bay Area weather.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Joel grew up in Virginia and enjoys horseback riding, skiing, and activities with his children. He also devotes a good deal of his time to charitable and community organizations. He currently serves on the boards of Giant Steps Therapeutic Equestrian Center, the Blind Babies Foundation and the Marin Conservation League. He is also a member of the San Francisco Mounted Sheriff's Posse.
